About Us - The Ashbys
The foundation was laid by my father, John Ashby: born in England, trained as a piano technician in London, and later emigrated to New Zealand. There, he spent many years working as a concert technician for Steinway & Sons in the Asia–Pacific region.
I, Michael Ashby, have been working as a piano technician for over 30 years, including many years for Steinway & Sons. My work has taken me across New Zealand, the Asia–Pacific region, and Europe – serving private homes, recording studios, universities, and concert halls, most recently as concert technician at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
In 2025, together with my son Stefan Ashby, I fulfilled a long-held wish: we moved to Munich, my mother’s hometown, to live and work here. With our family roots in the region, it immediately felt like coming home.
Stefan is a fully trained piano technician and is now carrying this special craft into its third generation.
