Michael Ashby – Concert Technician

Michael Ashby is an experienced concert technician based in Munich. With more than 30 years of professional work for Steinway & Sons and international concert venues, he has built a reputation for reliability, precision, and musical sensitivity.

 

Originally from New Zealand, Michael worked for Steinway & Sons New Zealand for many years, preparing and maintaining concert grands across the country. His work included the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand School of Music, Waikato University, and major venues such as the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington and The Piano in Christchurch, as well as numerous recording studios throughout New Zealand.

 

Since relocating to Germany, he has continued his work at leading institutions including the Isarphilharmonie, Herkulessaal, and Prinzregententheater in Munich. Alongside his concert activities, Michael has extensive experience in restoration, regulation, and the long-term care of instruments. Musicians and institutions value his combination of technical skill and deep understanding of piano sound and mechanics.

Stefan Ashby – Piano Technician

Stefan Ashby is a recently qualified piano technician based in Munich, continuing the family tradition into its third generation. Having completed his training in 2024, he now works alongside his father, concert technician Michael Ashby.

 

His work focuses on tuning, maintenance, and mechanical adjustments, supporting both private households and institutions in Munich. Stefan brings precision, dedication, and a fresh perspective to his craft, ensuring instruments are well cared for and reliably maintained.
